Dear Panther Community,

It is a tremendous honor and privilege to welcome you to Round Lake High School. As we begin this school year, there is a strong sense of energy and optimism throughout our building and among our staff. Our team is excited to provide a top-notch high school experience and inspire our students to reach their full potential in both academic and extracurricular pursuits.

Now entering my fourth year as principal and as a proud Round Lake High School alumnus, my commitment to this school and community runs deep. Round Lake has had a profound impact on my life and the lives of many around me. It is both a professional and personal privilege to serve in this role, helping to shape the experiences of the next generation of Panthers.

This year, our work will continue to be grounded in the core values that define what it means to be a Panther. These values not only guide us today, but will drive our collective efforts for years to come:

  • Meaningful and lasting success comes from consistent hard work. High expectations are set, progress is tracked, and efforts remain focused on creating an environment where all students thrive.

Looking ahead, I encourage all students to take an active role in their high school experience. This is a time to explore new curriculum, participate in clubs and athletics, and form lasting relationships. These experiences will help shape their future and should be both embraced and celebrated.

Finally, we view our time together at Round Lake High School as a partnership between school and home. We welcome collaboration with families and are committed to keeping student well-being at the center of all we do.

Es un tremendo honor y privilegio darles la bienvenida a la Escuela Secundaria Round Lake. Al comenzar este nuevo año escolar, se siente una gran energía y optimismo en todo nuestro edificio y entre nuestro personal. Nuestro equipo está entusiasmado por ofrecer una experiencia educativa de alta calidad e inspirar a nuestros estudiantes a alcanzar su máximo potencial tanto académica como extracurricularmente.

Ahora en mi cuarto año como director, y como orgulloso exalumno de Round Lake High School, mi compromiso con esta escuela y comunidad es profundo. Round Lake ha tenido un gran impacto en mi vida y en la de muchas personas cercanas a mí. Es un privilegio tanto profesional como personal servir en este cargo y ayudar a moldear las experiencias de la próxima generación de Panthers.

Mr. Frank Ranalli

I’m thrilled to start this new school year as the Assistant Principal of Student Services at Round Lake High School!

My journey in Round Lake began in 2012, and it’s been an incredible honor to grow alongside this community. Before joining RLHS, I spent nine years at Magee Middle School, where I served as a Science teacher, Athletic Coach (football, wrestling, softball, and track), Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction. In every role, my mission has remained the same: to create a supportive, motivating, and student-centered environment where all learners can thrive.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement and master’s degrees in both General Education and Educational Leadership. For the past eleven years, I’ve proudly called Round Lake home. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Amanda, and our four boys—Frankie, Jake, William, and Charlie. Whether we’re watching movies or exploring the outdoors, family time is my favorite way to recharge.

I’m excited for what this school year holds, and I look forward to partnering with students, families, and staff to make it our best yet!

¡Me emociona comenzar este año escolar como Subdirector de Servicios Educativos de la Escuela Preparatoria de Round Lake!

Mi trayectoria en Round Lake comenzó en el 2012. Ha sido un honor increíble crecer junto con esta comunidad. Antes de unirme a RLHS, pasé nueve años en la Escuela Secundaria Magee, donde serví como maestro de ciencia, entrenador deportivo (fútbol americano, lucha libre, softbol y pista), Decano de Estudiantes y Subdirector de Currículo e Instrucción. En cada rol, mi misión ha permanecido la misma: crear un ambiente de apoyo y motivación centrado en el estudiante, en el que todos los alumnos puedan prosperar.

Tengo una licenciatura en el cumplimiento de la ley y una maestría en educación general y liderazgo educativo. Puedo decir con orgullo que Round Lake ha sido mi hogar durante los últimos once años. Fuera de la escuela disfruto pasar tiempo con mi esposa, Amanda, y nuestros cuatro hijos: Frankie, Jake, William, y Charlie. Ya sea al ver películas o explorar el exterior, el tiempo en familia es lo que más me gusta para recargar las pilas.

¡Estoy emocionado por lo que traerá este año escolar y por colaborar con los estudiantes, las familias y el personal escolar para que este año sea el mejor que hemos tenido hasta ahora!

Mr. Jeff Dees

I am honored to serve the Round Lake High School community as the Associate Principal for Curriculum & Instruction.  Whether you are a returning student or joining us for the first time, we are excited to have you as part of our school community. 

At Round Lake High School, we are committed to creating an academic culture and climate where every student feels seen, heard, and valued for who they are. Together, we will work to ensure that our students participate in classroom experiences that engage, inspire, and prepare them to thrive in their next endeavors beyond RLHS. Partnership between school and home is essential to student success, and we know that our shared efforts can help every student reach their full potential. I encourage you to reach out at any time if we can assist you or your student throughout the year.

I have spent my entire career, both as a teacher and an administrator, in the northern suburbs of Chicago. After teaching Social Studies at both the middle and high school levels, I moved into educational leadership as a Social Studies department chair and then assistant principal. I have earned a bachelor’s degree in history and social policy from Northwestern University, a master’s degree in education from John Carroll University, and certification in educational administration from DePaul University.  When away from school, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two boys.  I’m also an avid sports fan (especially my hometown Cleveland teams). 

It will be a great year at Round Lake High School! Go Panthers!

Es un honor para mí servir a la comunidad de la Escuela Preparatoria Round Lake como Subdirector de Currículo e Instrucción. Si eres un estudiante regresando a clases, o te unes a nosotros por primera vez, nos emociona que seas parte de nuestra comunidad escolar.

En la Escuela Preparatoria Round Lake, estamos comprometidos con crear una cultura y clima académico en el que cada estudiante se sienta visible, escuchado y valorado por quien es. Juntos trabajaremos para asegurarnos que nuestros estudiantes participen en experiencias dentro del salón de clases que los atraiga, los inspire y los prepare para prosperar en sus próximos proyectos después de salir de RLHS. La sociedad entre la escuela y el hogar es esencial para lograr el éxito del estudiante, y sabemos que nuestros esfuerzos compartidos pueden ayudarle a cada estudiante a alcanzar su máximo potencial. He pasado mi carrera entera, tanto como maestro como administrador, en los suburbios al norte de Chicago. Después de enseñar estudios sociales a nivel secundaria y preparatoria, me moví a un liderazgo educativo como jefe de departamento de estudios sociales y luego como subdirector.

Obtuve una licenciatura en historia y políticas sociales de la universidad Northwestern University, una maestría en educación de la universidad John Carroll University, y una certificación en administración educativa de la universidad DePaul. Cuando no estoy en la escuela, disfruto pasar tiempo con mi esposa y mis dos hijos. También soy fanático de los deportes (especialmente de los equipos de mi ciudad natal Cleveland).

Mrs. Sloane Power

I’m excited to begin my second year as the Assistant Principal of Educational Services at Round Lake High School. Since joining the Panther community during the 2023–2024 school year as the Department Chair of Special Education, I have focused on supporting student growth, inclusion, and positive school culture. In this role, I’m passionate about building strong relationships with families, staff, and the broader community to support student achievement and well-being. I believe that collaboration and connection are the foundation of a thriving school, and I’m committed to creating a positive, supportive environment where all students and staff can succeed.

Before coming to Round Lake, I spent 10 years teaching in School District U-46, where I worked in both a behavior program and a modified learning program, supporting students with intellectual disabilities and diverse behavioral needs. These experiences deeply shaped my commitment to equity, differentiated instruction, and inclusive education.

I earned my bachelor’s degree as a Learning Behavior Specialist from Northeastern Illinois University and my master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University Chicago.

Outside of school, I live in Volo with my husband, Ryan, and our two children, Easton and Stealy. We enjoy spending time outdoors and staying active with their various sports and activities.

It’s an honor to serve the Round Lake community, and I’m excited for the opportunities ahead to support a successful and positive school year. Go Panthers!

Me emociona comenzar mi segundo año como la Subdirectora de Servicios Educativos en la Escuela Preparatoria de Round Lake. Desde que me uní a la comunidad Panther para el año escolar 2023–2024 como Jefe del Departamento de Educación Especial, me he enfocado en apoyar en el crecimiento estudiantil, la inclusión y una cultura escolar positiva. En este rol, me apasiona fortalecer las relaciones con las familias, el personal escolar y el resto de la comunidad para que juntos apoyemos en el logro y el bienestar de los estudiantes. Creo que la colaboración y la conexión son el fundamento de una escuela que prospera, y estoy comprometida con crear un entorno positivo y de ayuda en el que todos los estudiantes y el personal escolar puedan alcanzar el éxito.

Antes de llegar a Round Lake, enseñé por 10 años en el distrito escolar 46, donde trabajé en el programa de conducta y un programa modificado de aprendizaje, apoyando a los alumnos con discapacidades intelectuales y distintas necesidades de comportamiento.

Estas experiencias moldearon profundamente mi compromiso con la equidad, la instrucción diferenciada y la educación inclusiva.

Mr. Andrew McDowell

My career in Round Lake began in 2010, and I am currently the Associate Principal for Operations and Safety. Having previously served as a Science Teacher, Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal for Student Services, I have had the privilege of serving the school community in many different capacities. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Biology from UW-Oshkosh and then attended National Louis University, earning a Master’s in Secondary Education and obtaining my teacher certification. From there, I attended Concordia University, obtaining a Masters in Educational Leadership. I live in Lindenhurst with my wife, Laura, and three children, Hank, Finn, and Knox.

Mi carrera en Round Lake comenzó en el año 2010 y actualmente soy el Director asociado de operaciones y seguridad. Mr. Ethan Karolczak

I am extremely proud to be a part of the Panther Family. I am a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University where I played football and majored in History with a double minor in Sociology and Secondary Education. I hold a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University. I have over 20 years experience in education as a teacher, coach, and athletic director. 

I am a firm believer that education-based athletics are an extension of the classroom where student-athletes have the opportunity to learn leadership skills and habits of excellence to prepare for and create successful futures. 

I live in Wauconda with my wife Karen and our two sons, Josh and Brian. Everyday, I look forward to working with our students, staff, parents, and the community to build champions in the classroom, on the court and field, and in life.

Estoy extremadamente orgulloso de ser parte de la familia de los Panther.

Me gradué de la universidad Illinois Wesleyan University, donde jugué fútbol americano y cursé la licenciatura de historia con dos concentraciones, una en sociología y otra en educación secundaria. Tengo una maestría en liderazgo educativo de la universidad Northeastern Illinois University. Tengo más de 20 años de experiencia en la educación como maestro, entrenador y director atlético. 

Creo firmemente que los deportes basados en la educación son una extensión del salón de clases, y son un lugar en el que los estudiantes atletas tienen la oportunidad de aprender habilidades de liderazgo y hábitos de excelencia que los preparan para crear futuros exitosos. 

Vivo en Wauconda con mi esposa Karen y nuestros dos hijos, Josh y Brian. Todos los días estoy entusiasmado por trabajar con nuestros estudiantes, el personal escolar, los padres y la comunidad para crear campeones en el salón de clases, en la cancha y el campo, y en la vida.
