Administrative Team

Mr. Brian Peterson

It is a tremendous honor and privilege to greet the Round Lake High School Panther Community. As we enter the upcoming school year, there is a great deal of positive energy within our building and amongst our staff. The last couple of years have presented many challenges for all of us and have had varied levels of impact on our students, parents, and staff. With that being said, this year will bring us much closer to the educational experience that our community has been accustomed to in years past. Our staff is excited to provide a top-notch high school experience and inspire our students to reach their full potential in both their academic and extracurricular endeavors.

As a Round Lake High School Alumni, I enter this position with a high level of “Panther Pride". The Round Lake Community is tremendously special to me as it had such a high level of positive impact on my life, and so many others who were close to me. Entering my first year as principal at Round Lake High School, please know that I am overwhelmingly enthusiastic about this opportunity to serve our community.

In looking ahead to the academic year, I encourage our students to take an active role in their “high school experience". There is a great opportunity to be exposed to new curriculum, activities, athletics, and people. These experiences will shape our students' future and should be both embraced and celebrated.

Lastly, it is essential that we view our years together at Round Lake High School as a partnership between the school and the home. At Round Lake High School, we welcome the opportunity to participate in a collaborative experience with our students' well-being at the center of all we do.

Assistant Principal of Student Services

Mr. Frank Ranalli

I am beyond excited to start my first year at Round Lake High School as the Assistant Principal of Student Services. My tenure in Round Lake began in 2012, and prior to moving to Round Lake High School, I served nine years as a Science teacher, Athletic Coach (football, wrestling, softball, and track), Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction at Magee Middle School. In every role, my driving force has always been motivating and providing the best possible environment for all Round Lake students.

My Bachelor’s degree is in Law Enforcement and I have Master's degrees in both General Education and Educational Leadership. I have lived in Round Lake for the past eleven years. When I am not working, I love to spend time with my wife Amanda and our four boys, Frankie, Jake, William, and Charlie. We love watching movies and spending time outdoors.

Mr. Jeff Dees

I am honored to serve the Round Lake High School community as the Associate Principal for Curriculum & Instruction.  I view the chance to work with the students, staff, and families of the Round Lake community as an incredible opportunity.  As a new member of the Panther community, my goal is to lead an academic culture and climate where every student feels seen, heard, and valued for who they are.  Together we will work to ensure that our students participate in classroom experiences that engage, inspire, and prepare them for their next endeavors beyond RLHS.

I have spent my entire career, both as a teacher and an administrator, in the northern suburbs of Chicago.  After teaching Social Studies at both the middle and high school levels, I moved into educational leadership as a Social Studies department chair and then assistant principal.  I have earned a bachelor’s degree in history and social policy from Northwestern University, a master’s degree in education from John Carroll University, and certification in educational administration from DePaul University.  When away from school, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two boys.  I’m also an avid sports fan (especially my hometown Cleveland teams).

It will be a great year at Round Lake High School! Go Panthers!

Assistant Principal of Educational Services

Mrs. Karla Richards

My career with Round Lake Area School District began in August 2008.  In the Fall of 2021, I became the Assistant Principal of Educational Services, and it is an honor to serve the students and families of the Round Lake community for 16 years.

I spent ten years at John T. Magee Middle School teaching Language Arts and three years as the Special Education Department Chair at Round Lake High School. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in business from Roosevelt University and attended National Louis University for my Master's in Special Education and Educational Leadership.

Associate Principal for Operations & Safety

Mr. Andrew McDowell

My career in Round Lake began in 2010, and I am currently the Associate Principal for Operations and Safety. Having previously served as a Science Teacher, Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal for Student Services, I have had the privilege of serving the school community in many different capacities. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Biology from UW-Oshkosh and then attended National Louis University, earning a Master’s in Secondary Education and obtaining my teacher certification. From there, I attended Concordia University, obtaining a Masters in Educational Leadership. I live in Lindenhurst with my wife, Laura, and three children, Hank, Finn, and Knox.

Athletic Director

Mr. Ethan Karolczak

I am extremely proud and excited to be joining The Panther Family.  I am a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University where I played football and majored in History with a double minor in Sociology and Secondary Education. I hold a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University. I have over 20 years experience in education as a teacher, coach, and athletic director.

I am a firm believer that education-based athletics are an extension of the classroom where student-athletes have the opportunity to learn leadership skills and habits of excellence to prepare for and create successful futures.

I live in Wauconda with my wife Karen and our two sons, Josh and Brian. My family and I are thrilled to be joining the Panther Family! I look forward to working with our students, staff, parents, and the community to build champions in the classroom, on the court and field, and in life.
